How Does It Work?
Students must have a job by August registration to be assigned to a related class. These classes are very popular and fill up quickly. Students without jobs will be placed on a waiting list and should see their counselors to discuss other options.
Students must be employed and work at least ten (10) hours per week in a foods, child care, office or retail job AND attend a related class. If you need a WORK PERMIT for your job, please download the form, fill it out and bring it to the ROP Office up in Counseling to get it signed. Your job must be within the general boundaries of the Las Virgenes Unified School District. Our district stretches from Woodland Hills to Westlake so you should have no trouble complying with this requirement. We will stretch the rules a little but we will NEVER approve a job site in Malibu, Los Angeles, Simi Valley, Pasadena, Sherman Oaks, Burbank, etc. It doesn't make a difference if you are here on permit. You must comply with the same rules as everyone else. Home offices DO NOT QUALIFY for this program.
I will have a table set up in the theater. I will assign you to a class depending upon the kind of job you have. Our classes are retail sales, office or food services. You will attend this class either once or twice a week dependent upon which class you are assigned to. Attendance in this class is MANDATORY. If you have some kind of unique job that does not fit these categories, I will not be able to place you in a class and you will have to see your counselor to change your elective.
You must work a minimum of 10 hours per week at your job. Your employer will sign an agreement that you will not be scheduled to work during your class time. Your teacher will come to your job site on a regular basis to evaluate your performance on the job and to get time sheets signed.
You do not need to get anything signed at this time. You will be given all the necessary paperwork at your first class meeting.
