Calabasas High School is a four-year, Freshman to Senior, high school.  CHS is one of 3 high schools in the Las Virgenes Unified School District. (Calabasas High School,  Agoura High School and Indian Hills High School).  We are located at the southwestern edge of the San Fernando Valley and serves portions of Calabasas and West Hills.  

On September 26, 2006, Calabasas High School was awarded the National Blue Ribbon Award, an award that puts the school in the top ten percent of high schools in the state.  We are proud very proud that our 2009 API score was 849.


MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of Calabasas High School is to educate all students to the highest degree of their individual abilities.  Every student is expected to be a critical thinker and problem solver with the ability to comprehend and think through complex issues.  Each student will develop the vital skills of interpreting information and communicating effectively.  Our students are expected to develop academic, personal, and social skills and become contributing members of society.


Critical Thinking /Problem Solving: Students will demonstrate the ability to deal with complex, real-life problems logically.

Academic Skills: Students will demonstrate the ability to analyze, combine, and access essential data.

Personal and Social Developments: Students will take responsibility and handle real-life challenges in finance, day-to-day living and community service.

Communication and Interpretation: Students will demonstrate the ability to communicate in English and possibly a second language.

Student Activities

Calabasas High School students are active in student government and leadership, clubs, drama presentations and musical performances, an award-winning instrumental music program, yearbook, school newspaper, and a highly competitive interscholastic sports league. Volunteering within the community is strongly encouraged.

 


Special Features

Calabasas High School is on a schedule which includes two "block" days - Wednesday and Thursday.  On those days we have a Mandated Student Support periods for students with multiple D/F's.  This support period offer students the opportunity to get the academic help they require from their teachers.  Students earn autonomy for Support Period by having C's or better on each 5 week grading period.

Science - 20 credits
Foreign Language/ Fine Art or Practical Art (2 of 3) - 20 credits
Social Science - 35 credits
Physical Education - 20 credits
Electives - 70 credits
English - 40 credits

Total Credits: 230 Total

 


Grading System/Class Ranking

Letter grades of A, B, C, D, and F are used as well as P - passed, Cr - credit, N - no mark, I - incomplete, WF - withdraw failing. Ranking includes all subjects, grades 9-12 except school service. CHS has adopted “Standards Based” instruction and assessments.

Summer school courses and failed/repeated subjects are also included in rank. Repeated courses replace fails in the calculation. School service is not calculated in G.P.A. A four-point scale is used: A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0, except for certain identified Honors and Advanced Placement courses (*) which receive: A=5, B=4, C=3. Final rank at the end of the 8th semester determines valedictorian(s) and salutatorian(s).
