Media Center Mission: To ensure that students graduate as competent, critical, and ethical users of information. It is our mission to prepare lifelong learners; "information literate" citizens able to determine their information needs, recognize relevant information, solve problems, and effectively communicate the results of their research.
Equally important is our goal to instill in our students a love of reading for pleasure. The Media Center aims to provide a variety of reading material in a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere that will promote reading and help develop in students a lifelong love of literature.
Please NO food or drinks in the Media Center! This includes gum, water (yes, water!), anything sticky, slimy, chocolaty, crumbly, goopy, gloppy, grimy, greasy - you get the idea! Eat, drink, and then come to the Media Center.
You must have your CHS picture ID card to check out materials or use the computers. Keep it with you at all times!
Books are checked out for three weeks; overdue fines are 10¢ per item, per day. Overdue books must be returned before you can check out additional books.
During class time, you must have a pass to visit the Media Center. Sign in at the circulation desk.
Printing is 10¢ per page; the copy machine is 15¢ per page - always have some cash with you in case you need to print/copy/pay a late fee. A word to the wise: You are responsible for everything you print - don't print directly from the web, unless you want to pay for a bunch of useless pages! Copy & paste into a document, then print the document. That way, you'll know exactly how many pages you will be paying for.
You are responsible for everything checked out to you. Don't loan your textbooks to friends; don't trade textbooks with anyone.
NOTE: The SIRS Researcher and Facts on File databases are a protected research environment provided through the CHS Library for research purposes. Stop by the library for a guide sheet that contains the user names and passwords. To use the public library databases, you will need a public library card number.
SIRS Researcher
The SIRS Researcher, a product of ProQuest Information and Learning, provides access to thousands of full-text newspaper, magazine, and journal articles that cover social, historic, political, scientific, health, business, economic, and global issues. It is especially useful for locating current events articles and for hot topic issues, such as global warming, gun control, immigration, etc.

Facts on File Issues & Controversies in American History
This database builds a deeper understanding of how historical events have shaped the United States by exploring the issues as the key players saw them. Each in-depth exploration delivers dynamic, concise, and balanced coverage that provides the background, outcomes, and contemporary points of view for the American history curriculum.
Los Angeles Public Library Databases
The Los Angeles City Public Library system has hundreds of research databases. Click here to access the LAPL site. LA County also has research databases.
