I graduated from Pepperdine University with a BS in mathematics, a minor in Spanish, and a Ryan Single Subject Teaching Credential in Mathematics. I am also CLAD certified. I completed a Master's Degree in Education from CSUN. I have always wanted to teach and I think teaching requires life-long learning. I have continued taking courses to further my education, improve my teaching, and to earn a master's degree.
I have been teaching at Calabasas High School since 2000. I have taught Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Math Analysis, Math Analysis Honors, and Finite Math. I am also the California Scholarship Federation advisor. ****************************************************************************************************
I have loved math as far back as I can remember. At first I loved its simplicity and as the complexity increased, I loved the ability to solve the problems and find an answer. The more complex the problem, the more rewarding the answers became. Now I enjoy watching my students experience this enthusiasm.
****************************************************************************************************
Many students have phobias about math and dislike the subject for different reasons. I like to make math interesting. I try to find ways to relate the material on levels my students will understand. I create real-world examples that apply to their real world and their interests. I make learning specific to what they are familiar with in hopes of showing them that there are problems that require the problem-solving techniques that I am going to teach them in my class. Students will not only improve their math skills, they will enhance their critical thinking skills and their ability to participate in class discussions as well as cooperative learning situations. In addition, students will benefit technologically from this course by learning how to use scientific and graphing calculators to assist them in solving problems.
