Attendance Guidelines
STUDENT/PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES AND GUIDELINES REGARDING ATTENDANCE
PHILOSOPHY
The primary responsibility of the student is to be in class to maximize his/her opportunities for success. Excessive tardiness and absences have a direct correlation to poor student performance and are detrimental to the learning environment. Parents, students, teachers, and administrators all have a shared responsibility to ensure that quality education is the priority. Las Virgenes Unified School District attendance policy is directed toward achieving
that goal.
Parents may log onto Aeries to review their student's daily attendance

Clearing Absences

Note: Absences not cleared within 72 hours will be marked as truant (unexcused), and missed work may not be eligible for credit. Parents will be notified of unverified absences by phone or email.
Leaving Early
To request an early leave pass, call (818) 222-7177 ext 52233 (Ms. Tricia) before 9:30a.m.
After 9:30 a.m., you must call to request a pass and come to campus to check out your student in person.
If a student is not feeling well, they must check out through the Health Office—not the front office.
Attendance Policies
Participation in Activities: Students must attend school all day to participate in any practice, game, performance, or event. Exceptions must be approved in advance by the administration.
SARB Referrals:
Students may be referred to the School Attendance Review Board (SARB) after 3 unexcused absences or 6 unexcused tardies in any class.
Truancy:
A student is truant if absent without school or parent permission. Truants may receive disciplinary action and be cited by law enforcement. No make-up work is allowed for truant absences. Students must always check out through the Attendance or Health Office before leaving campus.
Unexcused Absences:
Treated the same as truancies. Parents must clear absences within 72 hours via CHSattendance@lvusd.org.
Excused Absences:
Illness may be excused with parent verification. Doctor/dentist visits require official documentation. Students receive full credit for work missed during excused absences and Students must request the work.
Independent Study:
Required for absences of 3 or more days (up to 14). Must be requested and approved 2 weeks in advance. Contact the Attendance Office for help.
Illness During School:
Students feeling sick must report to the Health Office with a pass. Failure to return or check in is considered truant.
Make-Up Work:
Allowed for excused absences only. Students get one opportunity to complete make-up work unless special circumstances are verified by Attendance.
18-Year-Old Waiver:
18-year-old students may only report their own absences if a parent-signed waiver is on file. The Attendance Office will verify the waiver with a parent.
